Dear Sacred Heart Families,
As we approach the end of our first quarter, there is so much to celebrate at Sacred Heart Cathedral School! Our students are learning, growing, serving, and putting their faith into action each day.
This month, I want to spotlight:
Campus & Student Investments: We are continuing to support academic enhancements, care for creation, and important school and campus improvements.
Opportunities to Serve: We are launching five Advisory Committees to expand parent involvement and strengthen our school community.
First Quarter Highlights: Our classrooms are thriving, including exciting hands-on learning in our new Innovation Lab.
Academic Growth: Star Reading and Math results show student performance exceeding diocesan averages.
Looking Ahead: We are excited about our upcoming Fall events!
“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
1 Peter 4:10
Sacred Heart is strengthened by the many ways our community gives—through prayer, time, talent, and treasure. This year, we are focusing our efforts across three key areas:
Academic Enhancements
We are supporting teacher excellence through faculty bonuses and professional development while creating interactive, real-world learning opportunities for students through partnerships with community institutions such as The Muse and the Knoxville Zoo.
Care of Creation Projects
Students are participating in hands-on environmental stewardship through raised flower beds, vegetable gardens, and expanded outdoor learning spaces. These projects allow students to explore science, practice sustainability, and care for God’s creation firsthand.
School & Campus Improvements
We are investing in important physical improvements across campus, including modern safety enhancements, updated school signage, and long-term facility maintenance such as hallway reflooring. These investments help provide a secure, welcoming, and inspiring environment for our students.
Thank you to every family who supports Sacred Heart through your prayers, time, talents, and generosity.
What’s New: We are expanding opportunities for parents to participate in the life of our school through five Advisory Committees.
These committees will advise school leadership and help guide important priorities:
Advancement Committee: Helps develop strategic communication initiatives.
Auction Committee: Helps plan and facilitate our annual Gala.
Building Improvement Committee: Helps identify and prioritize physical campus improvements.
Care of Creation Committee: Supports campus sustainability and outdoor learning projects.
Family Ambassador Committee: Welcomes and connects with new Sacred Heart families.
What Families Can Do: If you are interested in serving on an Advisory Committee, please complete the interest form below.
We would love your participation as we continue working together to strengthen our Sacred Heart community.
What to Celebrate: Our classrooms are thriving across all grade levels, and our students are embracing new opportunities to explore, create, collaborate, and problem-solve.
This year, students have been engaging in STREAM education through our new Innovation Lab and our partnership with SmartLab. The Innovation Lab gives students opportunities to design, build, experiment, collaborate, and apply classroom learning to real-world challenges.
Our official Innovation Lab ribbon cutting will take place later this month, and we look forward to celebrating this exciting addition to Sacred Heart with our school community.
Our second-grade students recently put their engineering skills to the test in the Innovation SmartLab. After experimenting with geometric shapes to discover which structures offered the greatest strength, students were challenged to design and build a tower at least 12 inches tall that could withstand a downward pressure test without collapsing.
Through this hands-on experience, students explored architectural concepts, structural stability, and the engineering design process—all while learning through experimentation.
What We Are Seeing: As Sacred Heart Cathedral School celebrates 70 years, we are proud to serve more than 500 students and to see strong academic results across our school.
Our recent Star Reading and Math assessments show student performance exceeding diocesan averages.
Why It Matters: These assessments provide teachers with valuable information about student growth and help us identify areas where we can continue to support each student.
While assessment results are only one part of understanding a student's development, they give our teachers another tool to help students grow, excel, and reach their fullest potential.
As we wrap up these first few months of school, I am continually reminded that what makes Sacred Heart extraordinary is not simply our innovative programs or beautiful physical spaces. It is the remarkable people who fill them each day.
Our students bring energy and joy to our campus. Our faculty and staff pour their hearts into teaching and serving. Our parents generously support our school. And our clergy help nurture the faith that is at the heart of our mission.
I can’t wait to celebrate with you the Fall Festival, Taste of Sacred Heart, All Saints’ Day, and the 5th grade Saints wax museum, just to name a few of our upcoming fall events.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership, your prayers, and the trust you place in us each day.
I pray that you and your family enjoy a safe and blessed Fall Break surrounded by those you love.
Go Eagles!
